PTA Participation

FROM THE PARENT COORDINATOR Ms. Hannah Just as there are learning standards for students, the national PTA has developed “standards” for families.  These standards focus on what parents, schools and communities CAN DO together to support student success.  The PTA National Standards for Family School Partnership are: § Welcome all families into the school community § Communicate effectively § Support student success § Speak up for every child § Share power § Collaborate with community How can parents/families practice these standards : § Be an active member of the UNMS PTA § Volunteer for leadership on the UNMS PTA and SLT § Attend an academic workshop at UNMS § Attend CEC meetings to find out what is happening on the District level § Maintain relationships with local businesses and organization that can be allies to our students § Hold local elected officials accountable to parents and students Research has validated that students perform better in school when the adults in their lives advocate and support their school.
